At Back 2 Basics Pediatrics, safety and sanitation come first. We use the Medisystem Professional Medical Ear Piercing System, a physician-quality system designed specifically for medical environments. Unlike mall kiosks or jewelry stores—where training and hygiene standards vary—our piercings are done by healthcare professionals who follow sterile technique and pediatric best practices.
Each piercing uses a single-use, sterile Medisystem cartridge, and all earrings are medical-grade titanium to minimize irritation and eliminate nickel exposure. You’ll also have access to licensed medical providers before, during, and after the procedure for any questions or concerns.
What ages do you pierce?
We offer ear piercing for children ages 6 months and older.
- Infants must have completed their 2-month vaccine series, including DTaP, before we can safely perform ear piercing.
- For older children (ages 5+), it’s important that they genuinely want their ears pierced and can sit still during the procedure.
Positioning during the procedure:
- Infants are held securely in a parent’s arms or car seat
- Young children sit next to a parent for comfort
- Teens typically sit independently
Because ear piercing is an elective cosmetic service, we do not restrain children. If a child becomes too anxious or cannot remain still, we may reschedule for safety.
Where do you Pierce?
We pierce earlobes only.
When appropriate, we can perform multiple piercings per lobe.
We do not pierce cartilage or any other part of the body.
How much does ear piercing cost?
The fee is $110 for both ears, which includes:

When is payment due?
Payment is collected at check-in on the day of your appointment.
Ear piercing is considered a cosmetic service, so insurance does not cover it, and we do not bill insurance for this procedure.
The fee includes your child’s medical-grade titanium earrings and the professional procedure performed by a Back 2 Basics Pediatrics provider.

What are the risks of ear piercing?
Before the procedure, a parent or guardian signs an informed consent outlining the following possible risks:
Infection
Any time the skin is pierced, infection is possible. We minimize this risk by using sterile, single-use Medisystem cartridges and by providing detailed after-care instructions.
Pain
Children typically describe the sensation as similar to a quick vaccine pinch. We use a topical numbing spray before each piercing to minimize pain.
Bleeding
A small drop of blood may occur, but the earlobe has few blood vessels, so bleeding is usually minimal.
Nickel Allergy
Nickel is a very common cause of allergic reactions. Our earring studs are titanium which is hypoallergenic. We don’t have plastic. P
Keloids
Keloids are thickened scars that form due to a person’s unique healing response. They are more common in individuals ages 10–30 and in patients with darker skin pigmentation. If your child has a history of keloids or wound-healing concerns, please notify us before the appointment.
